A Romantic Scottish-Inspired Editorial at Berkeley Springs Castle

Inspired by the romance, history, and wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands, Call of the Highlands brought an Old World love story to life at the historic Berkeley Springs Castle in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
The editorial was designed around two distinct interpretations of the same couple and the same love story—one dramatic and moody, the other timeless and traditional. Together, the two looks showcased how Scottish heritage can be woven into a wedding celebration while still feeling elevated, romantic, and distinctly modern.
This look offered featured is the softer look. The bride wears a traditional white lace wedding gown, while the groom transitioned into a classic black tuxedo. The softer palette allowed the architecture and natural beauty of the castle to take center stage while maintaining the sophisticated, romantic aesthetic of the editorial.
Scottish tradition was thoughtfully incorporated throughout the ceremony and reception details. A traditional hand fasting ceremony served as a meaningful focal point, symbolizing the joining of two lives and honoring an ancient Celtic wedding tradition. As the couple exchanged vows, they were serenaded by a bagpipe player, adding an unforgettable sense of place and ceremony to the celebration.
The reception design continued the Scottish-inspired story through carefully selected details. Authentic tartan was incorporated into the tablescape through a runner and coordinating napkins, bringing texture, heritage, and color to the otherwise refined setting. A stag deer motif became a signature design element throughout the shoot, representing the wild, romantic spirit of the Highlands.
The stag appeared in unexpected and personal ways throughout the paper and tabletop details, including the invitation suite, menu card, and champagne toasting glasses. The castle itself was incorporated into the invitation design, with its distinctive architecture featured inside the envelope to give guests a glimpse of the setting before the celebration even began.
Every detail was intentionally chosen to tell the same story—from the historic castle and authentic tartan to the bagpipes, hand fasting ceremony, and two contrasting bridal looks. Rather than simply recreating a Scottish wedding, Call of the Highlands sought to capture the feeling of one: romantic, storied, untamed, and timeless.
Set against the centuries-old character of Berkeley Springs Castle, the editorial demonstrates how meaningful cultural traditions and dramatic design elements can be thoughtfully blended with modern wedding style to create a celebration that feels both deeply personal and unforgettable.
